Week 10

Well, I've experimented with the camcorder and tried to do some editing with the clips. Ran into some issues because of the video being an mpeg, but the new editing program I bought (Sony's Vegas Movie Studeo + DVD) should eliminate those problems. Not holding my breath, since I haven't installed it yet. I tried using the trial version, but it wouldn't allow me to use mpeg with it. I was able to do some other stuff and get a feel for it. Seems pretty easy to work with. Now I just have to film a clip and get 3 viewers and their feedback before Friday!

Week 9

I made the corrections to my application and posted it on Blackboard. I have been practicing with my camcorder and will probably tape a clip later this week.

I was really pleased with the feedback Dr. Baek gave me on the lit review. It was a relief to know that I did well on it and wouldn't have to make a lot of huge corrections. I just need to find more articles to better support some sections, but not too many.

Week 8

I just finished and posted my IRB application and all of the stuff that goes with it. Now I wait for the feedback. I can't wait to see the feedback on the Lit. Review tomorrow to see what I have done right and see all of the stuff I need to fix or add.

On a fun note. Since my project is developing videos, I decided it would be in my best interest to buy a camcorder. So this past weekend, that is exactly what I did. I haven't had much time to practice with it, but will get to it soon!

Week 7

I took the weekend off from doing anything class related! After being closed up in my apartment last weekend, I needed to get out and have some fun.

However, it was back to work today. I have finished a couple of the modules for IRB and will continue to work on them. I was worried about the quizzes, but they aren't that difficult.

Back to reading!

Week 6

I'm finished with the lit review. I don't want to think about it for several long days. I know it needs more work, but I am pleased with what I have accomplished so far.

I'm tired. My head hurts. I need sleep. I'm outta here!!!!!

Week 5

I've been busy finding articles and as the due date creeps closer, I realize how much more time I still need! Finding the articles is easy, but actually locating them and getting a hard copy is another story! Reading the whole articles and somehow combining it into something resembling a lit review is the most time consuming even if you were to have no distractions, which, of course, there are too many when you're the most stressed! I'll continue on, but the lack of sleep is straining!

Week 4

I have finished the proposal, which didn't seem as difficult once I started working on it. I haven't been able to do much on the literature review as I left for vacation to visit my sister in the wonderful city of Turlock, CA. It's between Modesto and Merced of the 99. I guess I will be spending some serious time in the library later this week!

Project

In 544, my project was to make a DVD that contained a series of small clips that shows elementary students self-talking the strategies they are using to take a reading comprehension test. The DVD could also help in teaching strategies that address specific reading comprehension standards.

My reasoning for this idea was that teachers essentially teach the same strategies, but that they are taught in different ways. This would cause less variation in which strategies are taught and how they are taught. Students would be seeing the same strategies within a grade level and perhaps across grade levels. I have yet to decide if I want to focus on just third grade or attempt to broaden it to 2nd-5th grades with two versions. One version would focus on 2nd and 3rd grades, and the other would be for 4th and 5th grades. The comprehension element would have to be a similar standard for all grades if that is the path I choose.

Something else I have been contemplating is that I should make a ppt presentation that actually incorporates these clips rather than just a DVD of the clips.
